Renovation Giveaway #2 - Very Charming... (Winner Announced)

If you've followed along with me for a while, you know I have a thing for charm squares.  Carrie Nelson has come out with a multitude of Schnibbles patterns (which use 2 Charm Packs) and Me & My Sisters Designs have written 3 Times the Charm! and 3 Times the Charm, Book 2 (which use a single Charm Pack).   And over the years I've 'collected' both Charm Packs and individual charm squares and I have a large number of each.  In fact, here's my collection of current collection of individual 5" charms...

I haven't counted them, but I'm guessing there must be well over 1000 here.  Unfortunately, although I'm collecting them, I'm not using them, so hard as it is, I'm letting them go to a new home.

Yellows, Reds and Oranges
Batiks, Whites, Neutrals, Blacks, Purples, Greens and Blues
To give you an idea of scale, each bin is 13" long.  Just to be clear though, I'm giving away the fabric, not the bins!

This is going to be a fairly heavy box to ship, so this giveaway is open to US addresses only.  If you're interested in this fabric, leave me a comment below telling me something interesting about yourself.  Just to share a little bit more about me, I studied Japanese in college (can't remember a lick of it), I loved listening to Depeche Mode in my teenage years and I used to have a navel ring until it was partially ripped out carrying a laundry basket.  And yes, it was as painful as it sounds!

I'm not sure how long I'll leave this open, probably handful of days or so.  In any case, good luck!

7/18/13 - Congratulations Sue Bullock!  I'm trying to contact you for your information.

  4. Hmmm...how can I tell you something interesting if I'm boring? Well, I'm the 9th in a family of 13 kids, but didn't have any kids of my own. :)

  7. Dee... You are simply too generous. Please put Allie's name in the hat... She could sew up a storm with pre-cut charm squares.

Something about me.. I have always hated the notion of holes in my ears but I let my best friend Regina pay to have my ears pierced when I turned 31. She took me to the salon and when the girl shot off the gun doing my first ear, I let out a blood curteling scream. Everyone in the salon came to see what happened. Needless to say, Regina was very embarrassed and was shaking her head at me until she realized how white my face was. Then she went in to panic mode because she thought I was about to faint. It took a nerve of steel to let the girl do the 2nd ear but in 2 weeks, I let them grow back up. I did not like them at all. Call me old fashioned. :)

  9. I am a senior at The Pennsylvania State University with a 3.76 GPA studying Business with a Minor in Accounting. I quilt during the summer and vacations.
(hopefully that counts as being interesting *hehe*, since many people consider business and accounting quite boring)

  10. OK something about me? I am the biggest procrastinator I know! I will put off things till the last minute, sewing included, but if I take my time I will still not finish till the last miute!

I would love to have some of those squares. They are great for tile blocks and 10 minute blocks! I have many waiting for "partners to finish them up! :D

  11. I am collecting quilting supplies scattered about the house, so I'll be more organized with my stash. Plan to work on UFOs and the charm squares would be helpful. Thanks for the opportunity.

  12. I would love some of these squares. They will make great quilts for the Quilts For Kids organization.

As for me...I started to write to a gal in Sweden in 1957 & we wrote back & forth for to each other...never talking on the phone or meeting until she & her daughter & son-in-law came to the states in 2000 to meet & visit me. What a delight that was. We still correspond to this day.

  13. • • • Hi Dee, thanks for the heads up. You know how I love scrap quilts. Something interesting about me... hmm,

I am a pretty good speller, but back in grade school, and I don't remember when exactly, but way after most, I could not recite my ABC's. :( I do remember years later (after reaching the drinking age), I taught myself to recite them backwards flawlessly. :D

  14. Wow this is n awesome giveaway. Ok interesting...I have held a lottery ticket worth 7 million dollars, unfortunately it wasn't mine but one of my employees. Ooo what fabrics I could buy, if only it had been mine.

  15. Great giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the contest. Interesting (to me) tidbit... I worked for Piedmont Airlines in the 70's. It was a regional airlines on the East Coast. I flew to NY City and went to a play starring Harry Chapin. After the play, my girlfriend and I went backstage. I got his autograph on my playbill. The gal in front of me obviously knew him because he kissed her. I asked him if I could get a kiss too, and he obliged!

  17. I live in a 5th wheel trailor and have traveled across the United States several times. I love new places and to go exploring. Our country is the best! Right know, due to several surgeries on my foot, we have been stationary for a while. And I will probably look for a house in the near future, my fabric and craft supplies need a bigger home :) but I think I will always have my gypsy blood and would like to have a little vintage camper for weekend getaways.

  18. Hey Dee ... nice to see you on the MB again and LOVE what you're doing with your remodel :) Jealous here {{green face}} ... Something interesting about me ...

HMMMM ... When I moved BACK from Kansas to Calif, we were really hurting for money... so I saw an ad in the paper for a CHANCE to win $250 ... so I went to Hollywood and auditioned for the original GONG SHOW ... I was 8 months pregnant and did the HULA in a grass skirt to the theme from Star Wars. It was so bizarre, I think I even freaked out Chuck Barris! ... and they didn't put me on the show. Guess they were scared I would go into labor on it :)

  19. Hi Dee, seen you post on MB yes please put me in for some, I'm looking for greens and blues for my 3 grandsons quilts.

We'll a little about me, I have been married for31 years and look forward to many more. We have raised 4 children, and have 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. My granddaughter Victoria reminds me I'm a great cook but one time I was barbequing chicken on the bone, some how it burned on the outside and was raw on the inside. So when she comes over for a barbeque I have to cook hers, boneless. LOL Thank you.

  23. what a wonderful give a way! something interesting about me, hmmmm. Well I am the second oldest of nine kids and am the only one still living in our hometown, the interesting part is that I was the only one of the nine kids that wasn't actually born here ... my dad was in the service so I was born in Montana not Wisconsin. Even my parents are no longer located here!

My oldest granddaughter will be nine next week and she is starting to quilt. She has made one small quilt and a doll quilt and a tablerunner so far. she would love to play with the charm squares
    thanks for the chance

  24. I am currently teaching my 9 year old to quilt and she would love those! I don't let her use the rotary cutter so we stick to precuts. I also used to have a navel ring when I was in college. I also tried a tongue ring but that only lasted a few months. I used to be a lot more experimental than I am now! Thanks for the chance to win!

  25. Oh, these are so pretty! The reds, oranges, and yellows would make a lovely warm fall/sunshiney quilt. Something different about me...I love math. I think that's one of the reasons I like quilting...all the math in it.

  27. Hmmm... something interesting about me, is that I sing rather well, but more like a mynah bird - I'll repeat song bits or ad jingles, and the key/voice is nearly dead-on (I enjoy freaking out my friends and family with the random attack of a commercial). :)

  35. Hello, found your blog from a post on HGTV boards. Looks like you have some interesting posts I would like to read...but for now...please enter me in the charm giveaway.

Something interesting about myself. I have pet peacocks. Every time the male sees an airplane flying over ....he makes a sound like " honk! Eeeeya eeeeya eeeya!". It is so funny. Maybe he thinks it is a big predator bird and is giving a warning!

  37. Hmmm... I am a leftie. So are my two sisters (but my three brothers are not). My mom is a leftie and her mom was a leftie. Out of my four kids, though, only one boy is a leftie. What are the odds!?

  38. I would love to be considered for any of those wonderful charms. As a mom of 11 and grandma to 28, scrap quilts are what I make! Having the size family I do, when I learned to quilt in the 80's, I needed to find fast and inexpensive ways to make them!! I make about 40+ quilts a year with only a few actually staying in my home. The rest are given away- as gifts for new babies, newly married couples, people who have had challenges or loss in their lives and humanitarian donations. I've never made a " mini" quilt or wall hanging. My quilts are made to be used! Thanks for your generosity to anyone who is the lucky recipient! Hope all of your charms get to be used in wonderful quilts!

Hmm, something about myself...I like to travel. Have lived in the upper midwest all my life but have been east and west and international to Europe and New Zealand/Australia - all before I was married.

  42. I would love to have the chance to win the charm packs. I too am from Hgtv message board. I am married for 42 years, three grown children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. I enjoy camping and I take my featherweight along with me and sew outdoors. The charm packs would be easy to pack away in the very limited space in the camper and would give me hours of time lake side with my "Martha Jane".

This is very generous of you and I would be glad to reimburse you for the shipping.

  43. Hi Dee,
I would love to have the charms! you are very generous to share. Thanks.
I live in Texas and always have. My mother and grandmother were quilters and I think I got every one of their quilting genes. Love handwork too. I must be the only quilter on this planet that really, really loves to stitch the binding on my quilts.
Hope you have a sew great day..........thanks again.....Alice

  44. WOW what a great collection of color charms, they look wonderful. I would love to win them, as they would be fun to sew together. Something about me...I started quilting in 2006 - I just had to learn how to quilt so I could make my son a t-shirt quilt for his high school graduation. I had kept quite a few t-shirts as he grew, who knew I had way too many for just one quilt. Boy I got hooked to quilting fast, it is so much fun.
Thanks for the chance to win the charms.

  45. Wow what fun it would be to win those tasty nibbles of fabric. The only interesting thing I can think of is that we recently renovated our kitchen so I feel your pain!

  46. Oh my, I will be happy with just a few of those charms, spread the goodness around.

I am from Nicaragua, I started quilting many years ago and it was a struggle, I have learned as I go. I must be patient person because I rip a lot and do it again. I went to college, when I was close to forty and had a ball.

Thank you for sharing. God bless you, Felicia

  47. Hello from Craftyrad on HGTV boards! Would love to win the charms -- love spreading them out and 'petting' them! My quilting is mostly small items. I love the piecing part, not so much the quilting part!

  48. Dee, You are so generous to give away such a large amount of Charms. You'd probably wonder if I would ever get to make something with them, if I were lucky enough to win, since I have so many projects going right now. But I enjoy making totes from charms for gifts. Also I would share many of them with my bee. Your new sewing room is going to be just wonderful. You must be so excited about it.

  49. Dee, I am so impressed with your organization. I am in the process of figuring out how to set up my new quilting room and look forward to seeing how wonderful yours is. Miles is bugging me to stop and play so I will get off now.

  50. I consider myself a rather ordinary person, so what's an interesting fact about me? My husband's and my courtship was in a large part through the mail. Shortly after we met, he graduated from college and took a job where he was in continual travel status. He would come visit me occasionally on weekends. Than, Uncle Sam drafted him. We married after he was permanently stationed. We will be married 50 years in October.

  51. Thanks for the give away Dee!
Speaking of piercings.....I had first ear piercing at the emergency room when my brother broke his arm...my mom asked the doctor to do it! That wouldn't fly today!
Never liked the position of the hole so my sister's boyfriend did my second piercing with the needle and potato method at the dining room table!
