About

I love to quilt!  And I mostly share pictures and talk about the projects I'm working on.  But more than that, my life really revolves around my faith in Jesus and my love for my family and friends.  I'm a 40-something wife and mom to 2 cats.  My husband and I were married in 2000, and I am truly blessed with a wonderful, God-fearing man.

I've named this blog 'mike & gabby' after my 2 little angels - Michael and Gabriel.  Michael passed away in 2010 and Gabriel in 2021.

Michael & Gabriel
When we built our first house back in 2000, I bought my first sewing machine to make curtains for it.  I had no experience sewing (except for a pillow I made in Home Ec back in the 8th grade).  While in JoAnn's that December, I noticed one of their Block of the Months on clearance.  On a whim, I decided to buy an entire years worth and make the quilt for my mom for Christmas that year.  This was 2 weeks before Christmas, but I finished the top in time to wrap it and put it under the tree!  And I was hooked.  I loved making that quilt (which coincidentally took me another 2 years to actually quilt.)  That was back in 2003 and I've lost count of the quilts I've made since then.  My quarter inch seam allowance has definitely improved though!

In all my years of quilting, my favorite quilt is one I made for a challenge on the HGTV Quilting & Needlework Forum.  We were given random squares of fabric from each participant that we had to incorporate into our design.  I came up with an idea quickly, but was concerned the whole time it wouldn't translate well to fabric.  However, in the end, it looks exactly like it did in my head!
